Why the world is ruled by morons…
Did you ever have a conversation that ended like this: “Oh my god, this politician xxx is so far out that it amazes me that he/she hasn’t been sent to the asylum yet.”
I have a theory why.
50% of everyone is below average in intelligence. What does everyone hate? Someone that is smarter than themselves… So, we have the 50% voting for people that make less sense than themselves and definetly more stupid than half of us… and consequently noone voting for the people in the top 10% of the intelligence spectrum. We want people to represent us that we can influence and relate to.
So, we now know that at least half of parlament is stupider than the average… How do we solve this problem… likely we won’t because it is a part of democracy. Everyone is entitled to their oppinion whether it is stupid or not.
Next, we have an inherit flaw in our election system. We don’t know everyone running for office – since a known evil is better than an unknown one, we vote among the ones we know best… which of the candidates do we know best? The ones that have a) been actors and/or b) talked a lot on television. When people are selected to talk on television – do they choose the ones that have grey oppinions (i.e. can see both pros and cons to a given dilemma) or do they choose the ones with very outspoken black/white oppinions? Think ratings… think reality shows…
So, now we have a majority of stupid known people in parlament with very black/white oppinions.
Next, we decide that 179 people are needed to represent everyone. We put them in one room and think they will debate their way to the optimal situation for everyone. That is like watching Robinson… or a schoolyard – do you remember back in school who dominated the schoolyard? The stupid people with enough friends…
All I can say is… Even I could be a prime minister in this system… all hail the Goblin.
