Why actors make so good politicians
We see them everywhere – former actors that take on a political career after their acting career has taken a turn for the worse. And why not? actors? oppinions should matter as much as anyone?s. The problem would be if they won the election because they were a good actor and not because they look to be a good politician.
So, what do they do that is so essential for a politician? Do they argue better? Have better connections? Have oppinions that appeal more to the general public?
No.
All the dirt about them has been aired and is now old news? they have been through the press several times and everything that is close to being a rumour that might stick has already been in the tabloids – and is useless for the opposition to use since it is already known.
Actors have tried everything the media can throw at them. They know what to expect, they know how to spin stories that little bit that will make people think it was an okay thing to do what they did. And if nothing else, people will at least recognize them when they see the names on the ballot and will go: ?Hey, that?s the guy from? I loved that movie? Didn?t he marry that good-looking chick from?? The opposition will be hard-pressed to come up with something witty an actor hasn?t heard 1000 times before from a nosy reporter.
Because, let?s face it – when did you last hear a politician up to the election actually talk about why we should choose him/her? I can?t remember the last time? it?s all about how poorly ?the other guys? did or will do. So, I?m stuck trying to find the lesser of two evils instead of actually looking for the better of two goods.
Who is responsible for this situation? Well, it?s nothing new – that?s for sure. I remember a slogan for an election back in the first half of the 20th century saying ?Stauning or chaos?. So, my pet-peeve is once again aired? make the debate black/white and present an alternative that is repulsive. That will make you look good? erh? or at least less bad than your competition.
But how do we remedy this situation – in my oppinion, it is both simple and at the same time nearly impossible. The problem is the implementation – because all we need to do, is get everyone to stop listening to slander and vote only from how good a politician they are? yes? that will be the day?
