Political change? Jelved vs. Vestager

Today, Marianne Jelved announced that she will no longer be the political leader of my political party. I’ve always liked her as her debating skills are far above many of her political competitors and I like her laid-back style. She tends to be dry and keep a level-headed attitude towards the debate at hand.

Luckily, this doesn’t mean that she is heading out of politics. She was elected in Northern Jutland and will just concentrate more on regional matters over national ones. Once again, I think, DRV has managed to do what many political parties have a hard time doing - changing leaders without the hazzle. Of course for some time leading up to the change in leadership, there has been rumours, discussions and so on, but there hasn’t really been much drama (although, our media has done their very best at stirring some up as usual). Had it been any other Danish party, I don’t think the situation would have been the same.

But, as the new leader Margrethe Vestager said on the press conference - nothing much has or will change due to this shift. Some things will be presented differently, but the substance behind it is basically the same. I can’t say, I welcome the change, as I much prefer Jelved over Vestager, but who is leader is less important compared to what the political agenda is. But I look forward to attending one of the local meetings, when Jelved is back in the saddle here in Northern Jutland.
