Taking a break from Danish (no – the pastry will stay…)
I’ve changed the layout of this blog in subtle ways – the posts are now divided into an English section and a Danish ditto – also, I switched to the default theme while adjusting the old one (I’ll have to brush up on my mad php-skills, darn it). I’ve learned that some subjects are better discussed in English – and it has kept me from doing a few posts that I originally wanted to do. In Danish they just seemed crude – so I’ll start blogging in English from time to time – also to keep my English at a decent level.
When discussing code – my first choice is to use English since my sources are usually English. It is hard to translate technical terms into a language that isn’t designed for it – and the direct translations often mean something completely different – or again seem clumsy. Discussing general subjects, I lean towards Danish as it is my native tongue and I have a broader vocabulary so I can express finer nuances than I will be able to in English.
I’ve blogged since August 2005 with a few longer breaks, and haven’t been as stable as I wanted to be. And this is one obstacle less for me to be productive. The scope of the blog has also moved from being a very personal venting space to a more technical inclined workspace. I don’t know what I like better, but for now, I’ll keep it technical with the occasional rant.
